Dress up in a kimono at Chura Sakura! Enjoy a stroll around Okinawa in a rental kimono!
To every one of you browsing Okinawa Holiday Hackers, how’s it going? ♪ This may be sudden, but what comes to mind when you think of autumn?
“Autumn is all about having a good appetite!!!”
And so, we in the editing department want to introduce you to a popular Okinawan food item that’s perfect for what autumn is all about: “Pork tamago onigiri” (^o^)/
\What is pork tamago onigiri?/
This is a food that uses “canned pork” that’s called comfort food for people living in Okinawa, and it’s made by putting grilled pork and a fried egg (tamago) inside of rice. In Okinawa, there are various ways to make it or tweak it depending on the family. It’s simply delicious. (´∇`)
▼Chatan American Village
As Okinawan comfort food, this is this place where you can eat “pork tamago onigiri” with a homemade flavor!
“Pork Tamago Onigiri Honten”
From standard PTOs (short for pork tamago onigiri) to well tweaked PTOs, you can enjoy a bunch of different kinds.
【Ume plum paste】
It looks like a standard PTO.
Ume plum paste is added as a topping. The sourness from the ume plums enhances the flavor from the pork and egg, highlighting the taste. If you like ume plums, you have to try this.♪
【Chikina】
Chikina = Mustard greens pickled in salt.
Chikina sauteed with canned tuna is added as a topping. This is perfectly balanced nutritionally because you can also get your veggies with it!!
【Deep fried nabera and homemade fatty miso】
The pork and egg are placed between deep fried nabera (sponge gourd) and fatty miso. The saltiness from the pork and the sweetness from the miso perfectly matches the juiciness from the nabera!
Instead of getting it as take out, it’s best to eat the freshly deep fried nabera right there.
【Fried pork and egg】
This is made by wrapping deep fried nori around rice, pork, egg, and tartar sauce.
There’s cheese in between the nori slices.(〃▽〃)
The wasabi stalks in the tartar sauce wrapped in nori along with the cheese on the inside is what clinches its deliciousness!!
It’s bulkier than it looks, so it really fills you up.
This is great for people who want to just dig in right now!
【Tacopeno】
This is a type of PTO that is eaten with pork, egg, fried tomatoes, taco meat, cheese, and beefsteak plant as the filling all covered in sauce.
Due to the veggie combination of the tomato and beefsteak plant, it surprisingly has a lighter flavor than how it looks.
Anyone who likes tomatoes is sure to love how juicy the thick slices of tomato are.♪
Did anything on the menu catch your eye ^o^ ?
Pork Tamago Onigiri Honten can be found in Naha Airport and Makishi, Naha, in Mihama, Chatan, and in Hakata (Fukuoka), and their limited edition menus are different depending on the location.
And so, you should head over to whatever location whose menu you have your sights set on!♪
